What do you need to Scrible down?

Lately, I’ve been in a bit of a pickle.  I’d like to feature some reading practice on the blog from time to time.  For example, I find a really interesting article on a blog or I stumble upon an amazing resource that I’d like to put up on the blog so I and others can comment on it.  But, there is this small issue that kind of prevented me from doing that.

And that is, you can’t just blatantly rip someone elses content off and put it on your blog.

A bummer, I know.

But, now there is a solution.  They just happened to have created a web app tool thingy that will resolve such issues.  It’s called Scrible and although it is in beta, it performs rather well.  You can use it to make notes about a particular web page.  Pretty cool, huh?

What’s the Deal with Scrible?

Scrible is a very easy to install bookmarklet that sits in your bookmark bar of your favorite browser.  That might sound a little complicated to a few folks, but in a nutshell it is a little app that plugs into your browser that you can pop open at anytime.

It looks a little something like this:

Scrible Toolbar

Don’t worry if you have no idea what I’m talking about.  The website has a very clear cut installation process that walks you through setting it up.  And it works for iPad as well, although the process of installing the bookmarklet is significantly more difficult.

How to Use it

All you have to do is click on the bookmarklet and it’ll open a handy little menu for you.  From there you can start annotating anything you want to with it.  It’ll record and save your notes for the particular web page so you can pull it up later.

This is an excellent tool for doing some Japanese reading on the web.  You can mark up a particular blog post and make notes about vocabulary and expressions that you’ve learned.  Or if you have a particular question about an item you can mark up a blog post and send it off to your teacher or friend to see if they could help you.

I’ll probably be using from time to time to mark things up and post on the blog.  I already created a bit of a mock up for a news article about SingSing.  I made sure it was editable so you can add comments or suggestions to the page if you like.  I’d love to hear what you think about this new tool.

Can you do me a Favor?

If you are interested in using Scrible, it is completely free at the moment, but it is limited to only about 125mb of space which is a lot of space, but if you need a little something extra you should sign up through this link, and get some extra space to store your scribles.  Also, at no cost to you, you’ll be giving me a little storage boost as well, so I can post more scribles here.

Give it a Spin

Check out the example article and tell me what you think.  Then, sign up and do your own scribling.  Let me know how it all works out in the comments below.
